For foreigners in Japan who need the Juminhyo (住民票) or the Kazeishoumesho (課税証明書) badly, they can now get it using their My Number card (マイナンバーカード).
You can get your Juminhyo in convenience store of any size or company – 7-11, Family Mart, Lawson or any other.
So, the process goes as follows:
1. Go to the convenience store (I went to Family Mart) and look for the copy machine.
2. In the copy machine choose Japanese language (it is not available in any other languages at the time of writing this article).
3. Make sure to have your My Number card ready and then go ahead to press the next button. (Please note that they only accept IC chip enabled My Number cards, these are basically your normal cards that look like the Residence Card, many people use only paper slip which cannot be used for this process)
4. Select the option in Japanese as shown below:
5. Next, place your My number card in the rectangular space as shown below:
6. Next, input your 4 digit password for the my number card as shown below:
7. Next, select if juminhyo is needed for the house representative only/all members/some members. The below image selects house representative only option.
8. Next, select whether the information about house representative is needed or not, and 2nd option is asking to select if my number details like unique Id of my number etc are required or not.
9. Subsequently, choose the number of copies required and click next (many copies can be printed in one go as these may be required by various institutions at one time like bank, employer, housing company etc).
10. Finally, confirm if the contents are correct and touch confirm button, insert the amount of money depending on the number of copies chosen, 1 copy costs 200 Yens. I chose 2 copies, hence total was 400 Yens.
In the same way Kazeishomesho can be printed (after step 7, select the 2nd option and rest are same), and it just takes 5 minutes. It saves so much of inconvenience of going to the ward office, really an appreciable initiative by the government. The government also plans to replace health insurance card with my number card, also link my number with bank details and other important documents by 2024.
Looking for a dashing Meishi Case (Business Card Case). I recommend this cool looking one from Takeo Kikuchi which can hold 50 business cards.
If in Japan and not having one of these, it is really going to be painful when visiting any of the government offices or even your own work place. Get yourself a sleek and simple one touch inkan (hanko) holder
